Arrival in Paris!

We arrived about an hour late at Charles de Gaulle airport. Our ground transport was waiting for us and we made our way to the suburb where we're staying - Enghien-les-bains. It is a very charming suburb with small windy streets, specialty stores for pastry and chocolates, clothing stores, and many other boutiques. The architecture is very interesting and students were commenting non-stop on the drive in. All students made it to their host homes sometime between noon and 5:30 PM. Tad, Jyothi, Niki, and Raquel took off right away (Niki and Raquel with Jyothi's host mom). Alex, Sarah, Devon, Ally, Joni, Winky, Alyssa, and Leah spent a little time waiting at school for family pick-ups. I had lunch with the English teacher and Ally, Devon, Sarah, and Alex, who got to try their first food at a restaurant. I saw that Joni spent some of her afternoon at the school, and she commented that it was SO different from in the US. Many of the families told me how good the group's French skills are after only three short years of work! I am very proud of the students, their positive attitudes, and their willingness to go along with whatever needed to happen when we are all so tired that it isn't possible to explain in words. We will see each other tomorrow at school, where the students will attend classes with their host students and I will teach some English classes. WE ARE IN FRANCE!!!
